LOS ANGELES, CA – The Housing Rights Center (HRC), the nation’s largest nonprofit civil rights organization dedicated to fair housing, has released a new success story newsletter featuring recent case outcomes in which fair housing protections and reasonable accommodations helped individuals with disabilities secure and maintain safe housing under California law.

The newsletter highlights the work of HRC case analysts who assist residents facing housing discrimination and barriers related to disability. Through counseling, advocacy, and negotiation with housing providers, HRC helps ensure that individuals are able to access and remain in housing with the accommodations they need under state and federal fair housing laws.

In one featured case, HRC assisted a Southern California family after they received a notice requiring them to remove emotional support animals or face eviction. The resident, who has a mental health disability, relied on the animals for disability-related support. HRC helped the family submit a reasonable accommodation request and engaged with the housing provider to clarify fair housing obligations regarding assistance animals. The housing provider ultimately granted the request, allowing the family to remain safely housed with their emotional support animals.

HRC’s case analysts continue to support tenants, homeowners, and housing providers across Los Angeles County by providing education, dispute resolution, and advocacy aimed at preventing and addressing housing discrimination.
